Washed fleece by the pound

What we can’t show you is the smell.  Early washing is a self-defense move!

There is more work for the buyer with a pound (or more) of fleece.  But if you know how, or are willing to learn how, it’s makes the eventual yarn so much more special than any commercial-bought yarn will.  There is no guarantee of no VM in it.  It’s been washed as well as humanly possible, and two sets of eyes have gone over it during picking, but the fact is, you will find VM.  Picking it out to make it work for you, whether you want to make a Santa beard with the curls, a chunky-weight neck scarf for the winter, or crochet a butterfly shawl with fine homemade laceweight yarn….it will be so specially yours

And of course, we didn’t even mention dyeing it.  Whether you use natural dyes or man-made, it is up to you to imagine what colors will accomplish what you want.  The fleece is totally natural, and nothing will interfere with dyeing if that’s what you choose to do.  Enjoy the creative path this begins for you!

We just had our goats sheared a few weeks ago.  Already they are regrowing that fleece so that, come September, when they are shorn again, they will have as much, or more, beautiful, healthy fleece for us. Once we lugged the HUGE bag of fleece into our house, I asked my husband to weigh the fleece.

Those goats gave us 33 pounds of fleece!!!!

It’s been a busy few weeks, with Easter, and family coming then; and some of the family returning for today’s total eclipse.  So I have not skirted the new fleece yet, though that will start this week.  Then comes the titanic work of washing all that fleece (a pound or so at a time), drying it, picking out whatever VM we can get without destroying the curls that some folks want for crafts.  At that point, probably by the end of May, we will have 33 pounds more fleece, minus the weight of dirt and removed VM, to process into batts or to sell to you by the pound.

It starts with this:
